  • It's Official

    On April 15th, our three mayors - Fairbanks City Mayor Terry Strle, North Pole Mayor Douglas Isaacson, and Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins - joined together and wrote the AWG International Committee to announce Fairbanks' intention to bid for the 2014 Games' Host Community. As our elected representatives, they expressed our community's capacity and enthusiasm for staging this impressive, international youth sports competition and cultural exchange.

Fairbanks North Star Borough, Fairbanks Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Cities of Fairbanks & North Pole are proud to announce our intention to bid for the 2014 Arctic Winter Games!

  • Approximately every 10 years, Alaska has the opportunity to host the Arctic Winter Games. It is our turn in 2014!
  • Fairbanks will be competing against other Alaskan communities for the honor of hosting the Games.

About the Arctic Winter Games

The Arctic Winter Games is a high-profile sports competition for Northern and Arctic athletes that brings our circumpolar world closer together.  The Games provide an opportunity to strengthen and showcase our young people and our communities through international games and sports development. The Games are an opportunity to build partnerships, share cultural values, and to promote the benefits of sport.  The Games celebrate sport through friendly competition, while offering athletes a social and cultural exchange with other youth from northern regions around the world.
